Checking again is correct. The 3s is a blank for our range, and after BTN checks back the flop, their range is condensed with medium-strength hands that aren't folding to a single turn bet.
Check-raising here is a significant error. We have zero direct equity and no relevant blockers to the hands BTN is betting for value (Kx, 7x, or pocket pairs). **Ranges:** BTN's check-back on the flop often contains hands like 7x, 22, or weak Kx that are now betting for protection or thin value. By raising, we only get called by better and fold out the air we were already beating. **Math:** We are risking 41BB to win a pot of ~37BB. Without a flush draw or straight draw to fall back on, we need massive fold equity that simply isn't there against a range that just called a 3-bet and checked a dry flop. --- > **Takeaway:** Don't turn total air into a check-raise bluff on the turn without significant equity or blockers to the opponent's calling range.

We improve to second pair on the river, but checking is the only play. After our turn raise was called, BTN's range is extremely strong, and our 8x now only functions as a very marginal bluff-catcher.
