Checking back is the preferred play here. While betting small is a viable mix, our hand has significant equity that we don't want to get blown off of by a check-raise on an Ace-high board that favors the 3-bettor's range. **Ranges:** SB has a slight equity advantage (54%) with a range dense in Ax and big pocket pairs like KK/QQ. Our hand blocks some of their continuing range (Kx/Qx) but we are currently losing to all their value hands. **Board:** This texture is relatively dry but dynamic for our specific holding. We have a gutshot to the nuts and a backdoor spade draw, making this a high-quality hand to take to a free turn. **Plan:** By checking, we keep the pot manageable and can comfortably call most turn leads or bet ourselves if we improve to a straight or a pair of Kings/Queens. --- > **Takeaway:** When you have a strong draw with high showdown potential but low current strength, checking back realizes equity more safely than betting.
