We turned a simple high-card hand into a multi-street bluff on a board that favors the preflop raiser, leading to a significant chip loss.

Flop Analysis

Raising here is a significant error. We have no made hand and no draws, and this board texture heavily favors the UTG raiser's overpairs and sets. **Ranges:** UTG has a massive nut advantage with AA-99 and sets (88, 33, 22) that we cannot represent. Our range consists mostly of overcards like AdTd or 77-66, which prefer calling to realize equity. **Math:** Facing a 73% pot bet, we need ~30% equity to continue. While we have roughly that against their entire range, raising into a range that contains so many overpairs is lighting chips away. **Position:** Being IP is valuable, but we use that value by calling and seeing how the turn develops, not by bloating the pot with zero backup. --- > **Takeaway:** Don't turn high-card hands with no draw equity into raises on boards that favor the preflop aggressor's range.

Note: Raising with King-high and no draw is over-aggressive; folding or calling are both superior to this high-variance line.

Turn Analysis

Once we've committed to the bluff, the Jack turn is a decent card to continue on, but our sizing is too large given the shallow SPR. **Ranges:** The Jack hits our range (AJ, KJ, QJ) better than the flop did, but Villain's check-call on the flop indicates they likely have a pair they aren't folding, such as 99 or 8x. **Sizing:** Solver prefers a small 33% pot bet (9.1BB) to keep the range wide and set up a river shove. Our 14BB bet leaves us with almost nothing behind, destroying our leverage. **Plan:** By betting this large, we are essentially committing ourselves to a river shove regardless of the card, which is risky given we beat nothing but pure air. --- > **Takeaway:** When bluffing a condensed range, use smaller sizing to maintain leverage and keep Villain's weak bluff-catchers in the pot.

Note: Sizing is too large; a smaller bet achieves the same fold equity while preserving stack depth for the river.

River Analysis

The river is a pure formality. With only 3BB left in a 55BB pot, we are mathematically forced to put the rest in, though we have zero equity. **Board:** The Queen completes a straight for exactly 9T, but otherwise just changes which high cards are best. It doesn't help our specific King-high holding. **Math:** We are getting over 18:1 on a call or bet. While the bet is technically 'correct' to try and fold out a random 44 or 55, Villain is never folding any pair for 3BB. --- > **Takeaway:** When the SPR is this low on the river, the hand has played itself out; the mistake happened on earlier streets.
