Checking is the preferred play here. While we have a gutshot, our hand has low showdown value and functions better as a check-back to realize equity or bluff later streets.
Note: Betting here is slightly over-aggressive; checking back allows us to realize our equity with the gutshot and protects our checking range on a board that hits the Big Blind's defending range reasonably well.
