Flop Analysis
Betting small is preferred to capitalize on our range advantage. We have more sets and top pairs like AsKc than the BB, though the monotone texture requires caution.
While our open-ended straight draw has equity, over-bluffing into a range that contains many flushes is a high-variance mistake.

Raising against the lead is a viable semi-bluff. We hold the nut straight draw and the QhJh, which doesn't block the spade bluffs we want Villain to have. **Ranges:** Villain's lead often represents a flush (Js8s, Js9s) or a strong draw. By raising, we put pressure on their non-flush hands like Tc6c or KcQc. **Board:** The 4d is a total brick. It doesn't change the fact that the board is dominated by the three spades from the flop. **Sizing:** The 1.1x pot raise is quite large; a smaller raise around 11BB is more standard to keep the SPR manageable while still generating fold equity. --- > **Takeaway:** When you have the nut draw on a monotone board, raising can be a powerful semi-bluff if you don't block the opponent's folding range.
Once Villain 3-bets the turn, our hand is a pure fold. We are drawing to a straight on a board where the flush is already possible, and Villain is screaming strength. **Ranges:** Villain's 3-bet range is extremely narrow, consisting almost entirely of flushes (AsJs) or sets (66). Our straight draw is often drawing dead or thin. **Math:** We need ~35% equity to call, but against a range this polarized toward flushes, our OESD has significantly less than that. **Blockers:** We don't hold a spade. Without the As or even the Qs, we have zero insurance against their made flushes. --- > **Takeaway:** Don't fall in love with a straight draw when the board is monotone and the opponent shows massive aggression; you are often drawing dead.
Note: Raising again (4-betting) the turn is a massive over-bluff. Villain's 3-bet range is heavily weighted toward flushes that will never fold.
