JJ SB on T43r: Commit With Overpair

Once we 4-bet and see a low T-high board with SPR ~2, JJ should mostly get committed by betting less often but shoving when we do continue.
Flop Analysis
This board and SPR call for checking JJ almost always; betting at all here is a sizeable deviation, even though the size chosen is reasonable.
**Board:** T-4-3 rainbow, no flush possible, is low and fairly coordinated; it interacts well with HJ’s tight 3-bet range (overpairs, strong Tx, some straight draws) and we have an overpair but not the nut region.
**Ranges:** Solver shows HJ with more overpairs and strong Tx (hands like AcAd, KhTh) while we also have many two-overcard whiffs (AdQd, AhQh); that slight nut and value share edge for villain plus our range’s draw-heaviness makes our overpair a mid-strength hand, not an automatic bet.
**Math:** With SPR ~2 and 43BB in the pot, any flop bet starts to commit us; solver nearly pure-checks JJ (~99%) and only mixes a small 25–30% pot bet, because betting too often with overpairs here bloats the pot against a range that can comfortably call or raise.
---
> **Takeaway:** On low, coordinated boards in 4-bet pots with SPR ~2, protect your checking range and control variance by checking most overpairs, not auto-c-betting.
Note: Solver wants a near-pure check with JJ; betting exposes us against a stronger, positionally advantaged range in a low-SPR pot.
Turn Analysis
Once we do bet flop and get called, with SPR <1 and still holding an overpair, solver wants us to shove turn very often; checking gives up too much and lets villain realize equity for free.
**Board:** The 5♥ brings straight possibilities (26, 67, A2), a heart draw, and generally improves villain’s range composition (more combo draws, more strong one-pair plus draw hands) while JJ remains just an overpair with no draw.
**Ranges:** Range-wide, OOP does check a lot here, but our specific combo sits in the upper-mid value bucket; villain has many hands like AhAs, KhTh, Ad5d, and gutshots such as AsKs that are forced to continue versus a shove but can comfortably realize equity when checked to.
**Math:** Pot ~73BB and our stack ~69BB gives SPR ~0.95; solver jams JJ almost always (~97%), using the all-in as a value/protection bet that charges villain’s numerous overcards + draws and locks in equity before more bad rivers appear.
---
> **Takeaway:** In 4-bet pots when SPR falls below 1 and a dynamic card hits, strong but vulnerable hands like overpairs should usually shove rather than check and give free equity.
Note: Checking turn with an overpair and SPR <1 misses a high-EV shove versus a range full of overcards and draws.
River Analysis
River is where we’re supposed to drive the action earlier; after checking turn, our hand is now a medium-strength bluff-catcher on a king river where HJ has a clear nut advantage.
**Ranges:** Solver data (from the intended line) shows our range here containing some top pair Kx, sets, and overpairs, while villain has even more strong Kx, sets like KhKs and TcTh, and value two pair (KhTh, Kd5d); JJ belongs to the middle pocket-pair region of villain’s own range, illustrating how dominated it is by their value.
**Board:** The K on the river upgrades a lot of villain’s flop-float and turn-check-back holdings (AK, KQ, some KT), and we never improve; JJ is now just second pair to the board, behind all Kx, better overpairs, and existing straights.
**Plan:** Solver prefers that, if we arrive here more balanced, we often bet or shove ourselves with this hand class rather than check; as played, after we check and face a very large overbet from a range that is value-heavy at NL200 in this line, JJ’s role is to fold as a dominated bluff-catcher.
---
> **Takeaway:** If you don’t commit your overpair on earlier streets, be ready to fold it to huge polarized river bets once higher cards and nuttier ranges appear.
Note: From a GTO starting point, JJ should usually be used as a shove/bet on this river node; checking as played invites a very tough spot where JJ becomes an unhappy bluff-catcher versus a nut-heavy range.
