Calling is standard with top pair, though raising is a viable mix to extract value from draws and protect against overcards. **Ranges:** CO has a significant range advantage here, but our Q8o is near the top of our defending range. We beat all their air and weaker pairs like 88-JJ. **Board:** This is a very dry texture. There are no flush draws and only gutshots like 53 or A3, making our top pair relatively stable for now. --- > **Takeaway:** On dry boards with top pair, calling is the baseline to keep villain's bluffs in, but mixing in raises prevents them from realizing equity for free.
Donk-betting into the aggressor when the King hits is a significant error; this card is much better for the CO's range than ours. **Ranges:** The King hits CO's broadway range (AK, KQ, KJ) perfectly. By leading, we isolate ourselves against hands that beat us and fold out the bluffs we want to keep in. **Position:** Being OOP, we should check our entire range here.
