When our preflop steal attempt fails and we miss the board completely, we should check-fold rather than barreling into a condensed range.

Flop Analysis

Checking is the preferred play here. While we have a range advantage on Ace-high boards, T6o is at the very bottom of our range and lacks any real draw or backdoor equity to continue.

Note: Betting with pure air and no draws is low EV; checking allows us to realize what little equity we have or fold cheaply.

Turn Analysis

Checking is mandatory. The board has become more connected, and after the BB calls the flop, their range is heavily weighted toward pairs and spade draws that aren't folding to a second barrel. **Ranges:** BB's flop calling range is condensed toward Ax, 9x, and flush draws. We are polarized, but T6o is the 'wrong' kind of air because it doesn't block any of the continuing range or have any outs to improve. **Board:** The 4c is a relatively blank card, but it does complete a wheel straight for exactly 35s. It doesn't change the fact that BB has a significant amount of showdown value that we cannot easily push off the pot. --- > **Takeaway:** Don't feel obligated to barrel with the bottom of your range just because you have a range advantage; some hands are just pure give-ups.

Turn Analysis

Folding is the only viable option. BB's large bet (nearly 80% pot) into a dry turn indicates a polarized range that easily beats our high card. **Math:** We need over 30% equity to call, but we have roughly 11%. Even if we hit a Ten or Six on the river, we might still be behind Ax or 9x, making this a clear fold. **Blockers:** We don't hold a spade, which is actually a bad thing for a bluff-catch. We want to hold a spade to block Villain's value flushes (if the river were a spade) or to unblock their missed spade bluffs. --- > **Takeaway:** When you have zero equity and are facing a large bet, don't look for reasons to stay in the hand—just fold and move to the next one.
