While we have a strong draw, raising the flop and over-bluffing the river into a flush-completing card is a massive overplay.
Calling is the preferred play here. While we have an open-ended straight draw, raising is unnecessary because we have enough equity to realize naturally and don't want to get blown off our hand by a 3-bet.
Note: Raising here is an overplay; calling allows us to realize our 43% equity efficiently without bloating the pot against a range that has us crushed.
After our flop raise is called, checking back is the standard play to take our free card and realize our equity.
Raising the river is a significant mistake. We have zero showdown value, but this is a terrible candidate to bluff because we block the hands we want Villain to have (missed straight draws) and we don't block the hands that call (flushes and Ax). **Ranges:** Villain's range is heavily weighted toward Ax and flushes after calling a flop raise and leading the river. Our range has plenty of better bluffs that don't block the folding range as heavily as Q-high does. **Blockers:** Holding the Th is catastrophic here. We block the T8 and QT straight draws that Villain might have been bluffing, meaning when we raise, we are almost exclusively running into the top of their value range. **Math:** We are getting over 4:1 to call, but with Q-high, we lose to every single one of Villain's bluffs. Since we can't win by calling and our bluff is inefficient, folding is the only viable path. --- > **Takeaway:** When your draw misses on a board where the flush completes, don't turn your hand into a bluff if you block the opponent's folding range.
