Small pocket pairs are primarily set-mining hands in 3-bet pots; when we miss the flop on a heavy broadway board, we must fold to aggression.
Flop Analysis
Checking is mandatory. This board heavily favors the BTN's 3-betting range, which contains all the sets (KK, JJ) and strong top pairs (AK, KQ).
**Ranges:** BTN has a massive nut advantage with AA, KK, JJ, and AK. Our range is condensed and capped, consisting mostly of medium pairs and suited connectors that missed.
**Board:** The King and Jack are two of the best cards for a 3-bettor. While we have a pair of sixes, it functions as a weak bluff-catcher with very little room to improve.
---
> **Takeaway:** On high-card boards that favor the 3-bettor, check your entire range to protect your marginal holdings.
Flop Analysis
Folding is the only viable play. Even against a small 1/3 pot sizing, our hand has almost no equity realization and is dominated by the BTN's value and semi-bluffs.
**Math:** We need ~20% equity to call, and while we have ~29% raw equity, we will struggle to realize it. We are out of position and will face further barrels on most turns.
**Blockers:** We don't block any of the BTN's primary bluffs like AQ or AT, and we don't have a spade to help us continue on spade turns. Our hand is a pure 'miss' in this configuration.
---
> **Takeaway:** Don't feel obligated to defend weak pairs in 3-bet pots just because the bet is small; if you miss your set, let it go.
