Flop Analysis
Checking is the preferred play here. Our hand has some showdown value but cannot withstand much pressure, making it a perfect candidate to protect our checking range.
While 55 is a standard open, it functions best as a check-back on high-card boards to realize equity and avoid being check-raised off our hand.

Betting here is a significant error. After the King falls, our 55 has plummeted in relative strength and should almost always check back to reach showdown cheaply. **Ranges:** The King hits our range, but we have plenty of better hands (Kx, Qx) to bet for value. By betting 55, we isolate ourselves against better hands and fold out the air we were already beating. **Board:** The board is now King-high and semi-wet. While no straights are possible yet, the presence of two overcards to our pair makes our hand extremely vulnerable to any aggression. --- > **Takeaway:** When the turn brings a second overcard to your small pocket pair, check back to realize your equity rather than turning a hand with showdown value into a bluff.
Note: Betting the turn with 55 is overplaying the hand; it functions much better as a check-back to catch bluffs or reach showdown.
After being called on the turn, we should check back the river. We have very little value to gain by betting, as SB is unlikely to fold a 7 or a Q to this sizing. **Ranges:** SB's range is condensed after calling the turn, likely holding many 7x, Qx, or even slow-played Kx. Our 55 is at the very bottom of our value range and wins mostly when SB has missed draws like JT or 65. **Sizing:** The small 33% sizing is often used for thin value, but 55 doesn't qualify here. If we want to bluff, we should use a larger, more polar sizing to put pressure on Qx. --- > **Takeaway:** On the river, don't bet 'thin' with hands that only get called by better; checking back allows you to win the pot against the air in Villain's range.
Note: River bet is too thin; 55 has enough showdown value to check back but not enough to get called by worse.
