We successfully turned a high-card hand into a bluff on a four-flush river, utilizing our range advantage to force folds from better marginal hands.

Flop Analysis

Checking back is the preferred play. While we are the aggressor, this mid-low board connects well with a SB flatting range (mid-pairs, suited connectors).

Turn Analysis

Checking is the pure strategy here. The Ks completes the flush and we have zero spades in our hand, meaning we have no equity against a completed flush and no blockers to it. **Ranges:** SB's check-call range on the flop would contain many spade draws that just got there. By betting, we are value-owning ourselves against flushes and getting called by any Kx or 9x that SB decided to check twice. **Blockers:** Not holding a spade is critical. We don't block any of SB's folding range, and more importantly, we don't block any of their continuing flushes, making a bluff here very low EV. --- > **Takeaway:** When the most obvious draw completes and you have no blockers to it, lean toward checking to realize your marginal showdown value.

Note: Betting here is over-aggressive; we have no spade blockers and the board just became very favorable for the SB's range.

River Analysis

Once we reach the river, the 4-flush board allows us to polarize. Betting large is the correct way to play our range bottom to force folds from non-spade pairs. **Sizing:** The overbet (or pot-sized bet) puts maximum pressure on SB's 'one-pair' hands. Since there are four spades on board, any single spade in SB's hand makes a flush, but if they have none, they are in a miserable spot. **Ranges:** We have all the nut flushes (AsX) in our UTG range that SB might lack. Even though we don't have a spade, we represent the top of our range to fold out SB's 9x, Tx, or Kx hands that don't hold a spade. --- > **Takeaway:** On 4-flush boards, use large sizing to polarize your range and force folds from better made hands that lack a trump card.
