Q7s SB on AK6r: Overplaying Air OOP

Don't barrel with pure air on boards that favor the caller's range; check-folding is the standard path for our weakest hands.
Flop Analysis
Checking is the preferred play here. While we have a range advantage on Ace-high boards, this specific combo lacks the equity to sustain a bet-call or the blockers to effectively bluff.
Note: Betting with pure air and only a backdoor flush draw is too aggressive; checking allows us to realize equity or fold cheaply.
Turn Analysis
After the flop bet is called, the turn is a mandatory check. The spade completion and the 9s are much better for the BB's calling range than our SB open range.
**Ranges:** BB has many more suited connectors and mid-pairs that improved to flushes or two pairs. Our range is condensed and mostly consists of Ax that wants to pot-control.
**Board:** The three-spade texture is highly dynamic. Since we don't hold a spade, we have zero equity against a flush and no way to block Villain's continuing range.
---
> **Takeaway:** When the board gets wetter and you have no pieces of it, stop betting and move into check-fold mode.
Note: Barreling the turn into a flush-completing card with zero equity is a significant error that burns EV.
River Analysis
Checking is the only option. We have reached the river with total air on a board where straights and flushes are possible.
River Analysis
A clear fold. We lose to every single hand Villain chooses to bet for value or as a bluff.
**Math:** We need ~28% equity to call, but we have 0%. Even if Villain is over-bluffing, we are at the absolute bottom of our range and have better bluff-catchers to choose from.
**Blockers:** We don't block any of the completed straights (QJ, 87) or flushes. In fact, holding the Qh might slightly block some of Villain's missed heart draws that would have bluffed.
---
> **Takeaway:** Don't feel obligated to defend the pot just because you were the aggressor; some hands are simply pure folds.
