Our hand is a pure underpair with almost no connectivity or backdoor potential. **Ranges:** BTN's 3-betting range is heavy on overpairs (QQ-AA) and strong Jx (AJs, KJs) that have us crushed. Even their bluffs, like AK or AQ with spades, have massive equity against us. **Board:** This texture is relatively static for our specific hand. While the paired 5s reduce the number of trips BTN can have, it doesn't help our 22, which now only wins by hitting one of two remaining outs. **Math:** We need 30% equity to call, but against a standard BTN 3-betting range on this board, 22 has roughly 20-25% equity. We are also out of position, making it nearly impossible to realize what little equity we have. --- > **Takeaway:** Don't fall in love with small pocket pairs in 3-bet pots; if you don't flop a set, you are usually looking for the exit.
