Flop Analysis
On this monotone texture, we have a range advantage but must play carefully. A small c-bet with top pair is a high-frequency play to extract value from weaker Ax and spade draws.
While we have top pair, the monotone board and turn blank make our hand a pure bluff-catcher that needs to pot control.

Betting the turn is a significant error. Our hand is not strong enough to bet for value against a range that called a flop bet on a monotone board, and we don't block any flushes. **Ranges:** SB's calling range on the flop is very condensed toward made flushes, strong draws (KsJx, JsTx), and better Ax. By betting, we isolate ourselves against hands that have us crushed while folding out the air we beat. **Blockers:** We hold the Ac, which is irrelevant on this spade-heavy board. Not holding a spade (especially the As or Ks) makes our hand a pure check because we cannot credibly represent the nut flush or block SB's continuing range. **Plan:** We should check back to realize our equity and evaluate on the river. If we check, we can comfortably call most reasonable bets on non-spade rivers to catch bluffs from missed straight draws or turned pairs. --- > **Takeaway:** On monotone boards, marginal top pairs without a flush blocker should almost always check the turn to control the pot and catch bluffs.
Note: Betting the turn with top pair and no spade blocker is too thin; it's a pure check to pot control and bluff-catch.
