Flop Analysis
Checking is preferred, but betting small is a viable mix. J-high has very little showdown value and benefits from folding out random overcards like AQ/AJ.
While J-high is a reasonable semi-bluff on earlier streets, we must check back when we improve to a medium-strength pair on the river.

Double barreling here is a slight overplay. While we have some backdoors, the 5d is better for the SB's range and we lack the equity to sustain high-frequency aggression. **Ranges:** SB's range is condensed around mid-pairs and Kx that won't fold to a second shell. We have the range advantage, but J-high is the very bottom of our range and functions better as a check. **Board:** The 5d brings a flush draw and completes a straight for 64s, which SB can certainly have. This makes the board more dynamic and less favorable for a pure air bluff. **Sizing:** If we do choose to bet, the 75% pot sizing used is quite polar. Solver prefers a smaller 33% sizing if betting this specific combo to keep the range wide. --- > **Takeaway:** On cards that favor the caller's range (low-mid connectors), lean toward checking your air to avoid running into a strengthened range.
Note: Betting J-high here is too ambitious; checking allows us to realize our minimal equity or bluff later on better runouts.
Checking back is the only play. We have improved to second pair, giving us significant showdown value against SB's missed draws. **Ranges:** SB's calling range on the turn includes many diamond draws and straight draws (65s, 87s, AdXd) that we now beat. Betting only gets called by Kx or better, which we lose to. **Position:** Being in position allows us to take our showdown value for free. There is no need to turn a pair of Tens into a bluff when we beat all of Villain's air. **Math:** We have roughly 46% equity against SB's range. This is the definition of a 'medium' hand that wants to reach showdown as cheaply as possible. --- > **Takeaway:** When you improve to a marginal made hand on the river, stop bluffing and check back to realize your showdown value.
