We correctly defend a high-equity broadway hand preflop but disciplinedly fold when we completely whiff a King-high board.

Flop Analysis

Folding is the only play here. While the price to call is small, our hand has virtually no equity realization on this texture and sits at the very bottom of our range. **Ranges:** UTG+1 has a massive range advantage on K-high boards, containing all sets (KK, 77, 33) and AK/KQ. Our range consists mostly of mid-pairs and suited connectors that can continue, making QJo an easy discard. **Board:** This is a very dry, static texture. Without a backdoor flush draw or a straight draw (like QJ on T9x), we have no way to profitably peel or turn this into a bluff later. **Math:** Even though we only need ~20% equity to call, our actual equity is barely 24% against a standard c-betting range, and we will struggle to realize that equity out of position on most turns. --- > **Takeaway:** Don't feel obligated to peel small bets with total air just because the price is good; some hands simply cannot realize equity.
