Flop Analysis
The flop should be an auto-check with our hand; leading big into the 3-bettor with pure high-card and a backdoor flush draw is a serious mistake. **Ranges:** The 3-bettor retains a clear nutted advantage with overpairs (QQ+), strong top pairs (99–TT), and strong spade draws, while our range has many whiffed overcards and weak suited hands like T7s that function as give-ups; we gain nothing by turning range-bottom into an aggressive lead. **Board:** The semi-wet texture with spade draws and low cards connects meaningfully with UTG+1’s suited Broadway/spade range while giving our T7h only a backdoor heart draw and some weak straight-backdoors; we are far from a hand that wants to build a 5 SPR pot. **Plan:** Checking keeps our range protected, lets the 3-bettor stab with bluffs we can react to, and avoids getting raised off our thin equity; by donk-betting large, we force our opponent to play well (raising strong hands/draws) and leave ourselves with no good response. --- > **Takeaway:** Out of position in 3-bet pots, don’t lead range-bottom bluffs on dynamic boards — check and let the aggressor define the pot.
Note: Betting 65% pot with pure high card in a spot where our combo is a mandatory check burns equity and invites a big raise with no plan.
