Flop Analysis
On this low, connected board, we lack a significant range advantage. Checking our entire range is a sound strategy to realize equity and protect our weaker holdings.
We turned the straight and the river Ace is a great card for our range, making a call mandatory against a polarized bet.

Calling is the standard play here. We have two overcards and a gutshot to the wheel, giving us enough equity to continue against a half-pot bet. **Math:** We need ~25% equity to call. With our overcards and backdoor potential, we have roughly 50% equity against a wide BU betting range, making this a very profitable continue. **Ranges:** BU will be betting frequently on this low board with both value (sets, overpairs) and many bluffs (broadways, flush draws). AhJd performs well against the air portion of that range. --- > **Takeaway:** Don't over-fold overcards with backdoor equity on low boards, especially when getting 3:1.
We hit the wheel straight, and checking is the only move. We want to keep BU's bluffs in and protect our checking range on a card that drastically changes the nuts. **Ranges:** This 3h is much better for our range than BU's. By checking, we allow BU to continue barreling with their semi-bluffs or air, whereas leading might force them to fold everything but better straights or sets. **Plan:** We are looking to check-raise or check-call depending on sizing. Since the SPR is low (~1.8), we are effectively committed to getting the money in if BU bets. --- > **Takeaway:** When the turn completes the nuts for us, checking is often best to let the aggressor keep bluffing.
Checking is a viable part of a mixed strategy, though betting small is slightly preferred. The Ac is a complex card that pairs the top of our range but also completes the flush. **Board:** The Ac is a double-edged card because it completes the club flush and makes a higher straight (6x) possible. However, it also gives us top pair, which increases our showdown value if it goes check-check. **Sizing:** A small bet (around 33% pot) targets BU's weaker pairs or Ax that might check back but feel obligated to call a small price. Overbetting would be reserved for our absolute best flushes or 6x straights. --- > **Takeaway:** On river cards that complete multiple draws, mixing checks with small value bets helps protect your range and extract thin value.
Calling is mandatory here. Even though the flush and a higher straight are possible, our wheel straight is too high in our range to fold against a polarized pot-sized bet. We beat all of BU's bluffs, missed draws, and overplayed two-pairs or sets.
