Flop Analysis
We have top pair on a board that favors the 4-better. Calling is the standard play to keep their bluffs in and control the pot size with a medium-strength Ace.
We played a solid 4-bet pot but missed a mandatory value shove on the river when the SPR dropped below 0.5.

When the aggressor checks this turn, they are signaling significant weakness. We must bet to extract value from their underpairs and draws while protecting our equity. **Ranges:** The CO's check on a blank turn after 4-betting and C-betting an Ace-high flop heavily caps them. They likely lack AK or AQ and are now in check-call mode with hands like KK-JJ or Tx. **Plan:** By betting small (~30% pot), we keep the SPR low enough to easily shove any non-scary river. Our hand improved significantly with the nut flush draw, giving us massive insurance if we are currently behind. --- > **Takeaway:** When a 4-better checks an Ace-high turn, they are usually capped; bet small to target their mid-pairs and draws.
Checking back here is a significant value loss. With an SPR of 0.46 and nearly 90% equity, we must put the rest of the money in. **Math:** We only need to be called and win about 31% of the time for a shove to be better than checking. Given Villain's line, they have many 'bluff-catchers' like JJ or TT that may feel priced in to call a tiny remaining shove. **Sizing:** At this SPR, there is no other sizing but all-in. Checking back allows Villain to realize 100% of their equity with losing hands for free, which is a disaster for our win rate in 4-bet pots. **Blockers:** Our Ah is actually a slightly bad blocker as it removes some of Villain's heart-based bluffs they might have turned into a check-call, but it doesn't change the fact that we are ahead of almost their entire checking range. --- > **Takeaway:** When the SPR is below 0.5 on the river and you have top pair against a capped range, the only button you should see is 'All-In'.
Note: Checking back the river misses a mandatory value shove; at this SPR, you must capitalize on Villain's capped range.
