Preflop and flop c‑bet are fine, but calling the flop raise with just overcards in a low, wet, limped pot burns EV — just fold and move on.
Flop Analysis
Small c‑bet with overcards and a backdoor nut flush draw is reasonable, but this is a board where we should mix in a lot of checking because the limper has all the strong suited connectors and low pairs that connect with 6–5–8. Betting small is fine as part of a range strategy, but unlike high-card boards, we don't want to auto-fire our whole range here.
Flop Analysis
Folding to the raise is better; calling with pure overcards and a backdoor draw on this low, connected texture against a raise from a limp-caller gives up too much EV and traps us in a bad, low‑SPR spot with ace‑high.
**Board:** 6–5–8 with two hearts is excellent for the limper’s range (sets, 2p like 86s/65s, straights, 79s/74s, and strong draws) and poor for our SB iso range, which is heavier in big cards and overpairs but lighter on the low suited connectors they defend.
**Ranges:** A BU limp-call range is packed with 54s–T9s, 76s, 97s, 74s, small/mid pairs, and suited hearts; when that range raises, it heavily weights toward made hands and strong combo draws rather than air. Our AhQx here is just high card — no made hand and only backdoor equity.
**Math:** We're getting ~2.4:1 and need ~30% equity, but versus a value-heavy raising range of sets, 2p, strong top pairs/overpairs, and nutty heart/straight draws, ace‑high with a backdoor flush rarely gets there often enough, especially with poor equity realization OOP and an SPR that will be ~0.6 after we call.
**Plan:** By calling, we more or less commit to facing big turn pressure on many cards with ace‑high and no clear bluff-catching properties; folding flop keeps our range intact and avoids putting a lot of chips into a pot where villain’s value range crushes us.
---
> **Takeaway:** On low, wet boards where the caller has all the strong connects, just fold ace‑high to a flop raise — pot odds don’t rescue us when our equity and realization are both poor.
Note: Calling the flop raise with only ace‑high and a backdoor flush on a board that heavily favors the limp-caller wastes chips; folding is higher EV.
Turn Analysis
Turn fold versus the smallish bet is correct — even with good pot odds, ace‑high on a paired 8 card, after calling a flop raise, has nowhere near the ~22% equity needed against a range that is now mostly trips, full houses, strong overpairs, and completed draws.
