While defending preflop and checking the flop were correct, we missed opportunities to bluff with our straight draw once the Button showed weakness.

Flop Analysis

On an Ace-high board as the caller, we must check our entire range to the preflop aggressor who holds the nut advantage.

Turn Analysis

The turn gives us an open-ended straight draw, and after the Button checks back the flop, we should lean toward leading out. **Ranges:** The Button's flop check-back heavily caps their range. On an Ace-high board, they would almost always continuation bet their Ax, sets, and strong flush draws. By checking, they reveal a range of medium pocket pairs, weak 4x/3x, or total air. **Board:** The 5c is a fantastic card for our range. We have all the 2x and 6x combos that just improved to straights or draws, while the Button has very few. --- > **Takeaway:** When the preflop raiser checks back a board that hits their range well, they are often capped, allowing us to lead turns aggressively with our draws.

Note: Checking is acceptable but betting small (33% pot) is preferred to start realizing equity and fold out the Button's air.

River Analysis

With J-high, we have zero showdown value. While checking is a frequent mix, this is a prime spot to turn our hand into a bluff given the passivity of the action. **Blockers:** We don't hold any hearts, which is actually a positive for bluffing here. It means the Button is more likely to have missed their flush draws and might be forced to fold weak pairs or Ace-high to a bet. **Sizing:** A small 33% pot bet is effective at targeting the Button's 'give-up' range. Alternatively, a large overbet would put maximum pressure on their weak Ax hands that are now terrified of the completed flush and straight. --- > **Takeaway:** J-high cannot win at showdown; on boards where the opponent has shown significant weakness, use your air to pressure their capped range.

Note: Checking is a missed opportunity; J-high has no showdown value and should be used as a bluff candidate on this runout.
