With AK on K‑high in a 3‑bet pot, we mostly want to call flop and let our range do the work instead of building a huge pot with a flop raise against a strong range.

Flop Analysis

Flop Ks 9d 2c in a 3‑bet pot is very good for us hand‑wise (top pair top kicker) but structurally still favors the BB’s range—they have all the overpairs plus strong Kx, while our range is more condensed and capped from flatting pre. Facing 11BB into ~20.5BB we’re getting great odds and our specific hand has ~80%+ equity vs the actual betting range, so calling is all we need. Raising to 33BB with AK here turns a very strong bluff‑catcher into a thin value/protection raise in a spot where villain is already strong: worse Kx and 9x are a small slice of their c‑betting range, while overpairs and stronger Kx happily continue. By calling, we keep their bluffs and dominated hands in and avoid blowing up the pot against a range that already has a nut advantage.

Note: Raising flop with top pair top kicker in a 3‑bet pot on K92r overplays our hand versus a strong range; calling is higher EV and keeps in dominated hands and bluffs.

Turn Analysis

Turn 7h makes the board Ks 9d 2c 7h with an ~0.66 SPR after the flop raise gets called. Ranges are now heavily polarized: BB continues the flop versus a raise mostly with strong Kx, overpairs, and better hands, plus a few draws; our range is also value‑heavy. With AK specifically, solver splits between betting about half‑pot and checking, with equal EV—betting jams effectively and gets called by worse Kx and some pairs, checking controls variance, protects our checking range, and still allows BB to bluff rivers. Given the shallow SPR, once we check we’re essentially committed versus a river shove anyway, so the check is a reasonable mix, not an error.

River Analysis

River 4d bricks the major improvements—board is Ks 9d 2c 7h 4d with no straights or flushes possible, so all the real action is just one‑pair vs two‑pair+ and missed draws. BB jams 57BB into 86.5BB; we’re getting about 2.5:1 and need roughly 28% equity. From range perspective we’re crushed overall (villain has a lot of two‑pair+/overpairs after calling the flop raise), but AK with top pair top kicker sits at the very top of our range after taking this line. That combination of pot odds plus hand‑ranking in our range justifies calling off; folding would mean over‑folding our value region and letting BB profit too much with bluffs and thin value.
