Preflop and river are clean; the only real leak is blowing up the flop with a big raise instead of calmly calling with a very strong but non-nut top pair.
Flop Analysis
Flop Kd 9c 2s, pot 20.5BB, BB c‑bets 15BB and we hold top pair top kicker with no draw concerns (no flush on, no straights yet). This board favors BB’s 3‑bet range: they have all the big overpairs (AA, QQ, sometimes KK) and strong Kx like AK/KQ, while our range is a bit more capped. With this range dynamic and SPR ~2 after calling, the strong, solver-style plan is to mostly call here: let worse hands (KQ, KJ, TT–QQ, some 9x and bluffs) keep betting, and protect our range of calls so we’re not only continuing with weak hands. Raising to 45BB creates a huge, nearly pot‑committing pot with a hand that is strong but not nutted, and it polarizes us in a range spot where we’re not supposed to be very polar. We also force folds from hands we crush (air, some underpairs) and mostly keep in better value (sets, K9s, possibly AA) plus the occasional sticky overpair.
Note: The big flop raise with top pair top kicker on a dry K92r board overplays our hand in a range-disadvantage spot; calling keeps bluffs and dominated hands in and fits the preferred strategy much better.
Turn Analysis
Turn 7d, pot 110.5BB, we have ~45BB behind and BB checks. Board is still unpaired and relatively safe: Kd 9c 2s 7d adds some diamond and straight‑draw possibilities in ranges, but we still have top pair top kicker and, given the flop action, a big value edge versus the remaining range (lots of QQ–TT, worse Kx, some draws, some slowplayed monsters). With SPR ~0.4, ranges are effectively committed; in theory this spot mixes between shoving (or betting ~½ pot in the sim, which is effectively a shove) and checking back. Betting gets immediate value from QQ–TT and KQ/KJ and denies equity to draws, but checking protects our checking range and avoids isolating ourselves versus slowplayed two‑pair/sets in a pool that might not bluff enough on rivers. Given EV is essentially indifferent between bet and check, our turn check is perfectly acceptable from a mixed-strategy standpoint—just be aware that, after choosing a big flop raise, population is likely more value-heavy, so in practice shoving turn slightly more often for value/protection would usually print.
River Analysis
River 4c, pot 110.5BB, BB jams 45BB into us. Board Kd 9c 2s 7d 4c still has no flush or straight available, and we retain top pair top kicker on a completely unpaired runout. After we raise flop and check back turn with this SPR, our range is value‑dense; BB’s river betting range now contains some strong hands (sets, K9s) but also plenty of worse Kx and some bluffs that missed (certain diamond holdings and random air that took a flop stab then gave up and now bluff-jam). Our pot odds are excellent (~3.5:1, only need ~22% equity), and solver treats this combo as a near-pure call. Folding would be far too tight in such a big pot with this hand strength and these odds; calling is mandatory and well played.
