With TPTK in a 3-bet pot on a dry board, we mainly want to call flop, not blow the pot up and isolate ourselves vs stronger value.
Flop Analysis
Flop Kd 9c 2s, BB c‑bets 10BB into 30.5BB and we have top pair top kicker on a very dry board. Range-wise, BB is slightly ahead: they have all AA/KK/QQ/AK and some KQ, while we’re a bit more condensed around hands like AK, KQ, QQ–JJ, some 9x and floats. With our exact combo, calling is the clear bread‑and‑butter play: the price is great, our hand smashes BB’s bluffing range and is doing very well vs their value range except for sets/AA/KK, and there’s almost nothing to “protect” against because there are no meaningful draws yet. By raising to 30BB, we largely fold out the hands we crush (bluffs, weaker Kx/9x) and keep in or get jammed on by the hands that have us in trouble (AA, KK, 99, K9s, maybe AK/KQ), which makes our raise quite thin. The solver keeps AKs as a call ~95% of the time here, using raises at low frequency and mostly with other combos for range balance. In practice, just call, keep BB’s range wide, and let them continue bluffing on later streets.
Note: Raising flop with TPTK on a dry K92r board in a 3‑bet pot overplays our hand, folding out worse and keeping in mostly stronger value.
Turn Analysis
Turn brings 7h, pot is 80.5BB with about 60BB behind—SPR ~0.75. After our flop raise gets called and BB checks, ranges are now quite face‑up: BB is heavy on strong one‑pair (AQ/QQ/JJ/TT/9x, some Kx) and slow‑played monsters; we’re polarized after raising flop (strong Kx, sets, maybe some bluffs). With AhKh we’re in the upper‑mid of our value region but not the nuts. Here both betting ~½ pot and checking are viable: betting gets value and denies equity from QQ–TT and 9x that will feel compelled to continue at this SPR; checking controls variance in a spot where BB still has more nutty hands and keeps our checking range protected with some very strong holdings. Solver treats this as a genuine mix for our exact hand (bet around half the time, check half), so checking back is perfectly acceptable and not a leak.
River Analysis
River 4c, still Kd 9c 2s 7h 4c—no flushes, no straights, just a very dry, slightly more connected runout. BB jams 60BB into 80.5BB, and we have TPTK with AhKh after having raised flop and checked back turn. Range-wise, BB is very strong here (lots of overpairs, KQ, some traps) but also has some air that took a stab after we showed turn weakness. Our hand is near the top of our value range given this line; we beat all worse Kx and overpairs like QQ/JJ/TT, and lose to two pair+ only. Getting roughly 2.3:1 we need about 30% equity; given our earlier aggressive line, we simply cannot fold TPTK here without massively overfolding and letting BB exploit us with bluffs. The solver mixes call and jam with this exact combo, but calling is fully in line with a solid, balanced strategy.
