Line is solid until the river, where the shove with top pair is too big and likely overplays our hand versus a capped range.

Flop Analysis

Flop Ks 2h 3c, multiway. We have top pair/top kicker on a fairly dry, high–low–low rainbow board with no flush draws. As a preflop caller in a 3-way pot, strategy should be very check-heavy—ranges are narrower and the preflop raiser normally does most of the betting. Leading 1.8BB into 6.5BB after BB checks is a bit thin but not crazy: we’re far ahead of most one-pair and high-card holdings, and the small size targets worse kings and underpairs. Solver leans toward checking this combo, especially multiway, so the main critique is that we don’t need to build a pot with a marginal top pair when ranges are still wide.

Note: Multiway on K23r as the preflop caller, we should lean more toward checking; this small lead with marginal top pair is slightly unnecessary.

Flop Analysis

Facing BB’s raise to 9BB on Ks 2h 3c after our small bet gets called by CO, the pot is big quickly and we’re now heads-up going forward. With top pair/top kicker, we’re near the top of our range and getting about 2.1:1, needing ~32% equity; the solver view shows us absolutely crushing BB’s range here. BB’s raise contains some value (sets, Kx, a few two-pair like K3s/23s if those exist) but also plenty of bluffs and overplays (A3/A2, small pairs, random straight-draws). Folding would be a major overfold, and 3-betting just piles money in versus a range that still has better hands. Calling, taking position with SPR around 2.5, is textbook.

Turn Analysis

Turn 8d, board Ks 2h 3c 8d, BB checks. Board is still rainbow with no made flushes and no obvious straight; we retain top pair/top kicker and a large range advantage, with SPR just under 2. Solver prefers a mix here: check a lot and sometimes bet medium/large to extract from worse Kx and stubborn pairs. Checking back is perfectly fine: it keeps our top pair protected in our checking range, controls the pot in a spot where the stacks are getting shallow, and induces river bluffs from missed draws or worse pairs. Betting has merit but is not mandatory; the check fits well with a solid, balanced plan.

River Analysis

River 9c, Ks 2h 3c 8d 9c, BB checks again. No straights or flushes complete; only two pair+ (like 98, K9, K8, 92, 93, sets) beat us, and many of those would often bet turn or river at least some frequency. BB’s check–raise flop / check / check line is heavily weighted toward one-pair hands (worse Kx, 9x that picked up, underpairs, some random bluffs). This is a great value spot with KQ, but we jam 51BB into 26.3BB—nearly 2x pot. Solver prefers betting around ⅔ pot and only rarely overbetting: the idea is to price in calls from a wide set of bluff-catchers. Our shove polarizes us to very strong hands; most of the range we’re targeting (KJ/KT, 99–22, maybe some 9x) will hate calling off stacks here, and we risk only getting action from exactly two pair+. A smaller value bet (around 15–20BB) captures more value against the condensed, mostly one-pair range we’re targeting.

Note: River shove with a marginal top-pair hand over-polarizes our range and likely folds out the worse hands we want to be called by; a ½–⅔ pot value bet is higher EV.
