Preflop defend and flop check are both standard; the big decision is really facing CO’s huge overbet, not whether we should have led.

Flop Analysis

Flop comes 6h 8d Jc, we have top pair with a strong kicker in a 3‑way pot and an SPR around 2.4. In multiway pots the iso‑raiser (SB) should c‑bet very frequently here; as BB we don’t want to lead into two players on this texture. Checking range is correct and keeps our range protected—our check can still contain strong Jx, two pairs like J8s/86s, and sets. If SB checks as well (as happened), we still realize our equity just fine and can proceed versus CO’s action; there’s no need to donk and build a big pot OOP when ranges are still wide.
