Floating preflop is loose and calling the big river barrel with our weakest trips is over-optimistic versus an UTG range.

Flop Analysis

Flop Ac Ts 7s, SPR still high and we’re OOP versus the preflop raiser. This is a slam-dunk range check for SB; UTG smashes A-high, especially with the nut advantage (AK/AQ/AJ) and strong overpairs. Our specific hand has middle pair plus backdoor hearts and straight potential, but there’s no reason to lead; checking lets UTG c-bet range and keeps our range unsolved.

Flop Analysis

Facing 3.1 into 6.5 on Ac Ts 7s, we’re getting a great price with a reasonable bluff-catcher: second pair, decent kicker, backdoor hearts, and some straight runouts (9/J). UTG’s c-bet range is still wide here: all strong Ax, overpairs, many broadways (KQ/KJ/QJ), and natural bluffs with spades like KQs/KJs/QJs. Versus that, folding middle pair is too tight; calling protects our range and realizes our equity without inflating the pot with a marginal hand.

Turn Analysis

Turn Td is massive for us: we improve to trips (T8) on Ac Ts 7s Td. UTG still has the range advantage, but now our hand jumps from bluff-catcher to a strong but non-nut value hand. Checking is correct OOP—UTG retains all boats (TT, 77, maybe AA full), strong Ax (AT, AJ+), and better Tx (JT, QT, KT), plus their bluffs. Leading would isolate us against a stronger, more nutted calling range and denies UTG the chance to over-bluff.

Turn Analysis

Facing 6 into 12.6 on the turn with trips, we’re again getting a very good price. Range-wise, UTG is now much more polarized: strong Ax (at least AT+), TT/77, some overpairs that didn’t 4-bet pre, and then their natural bluffs (missed spades and broadways like KQ/KJ/QJ). Our T8 is near the bottom of our trips region but still comfortably ahead of bluffs and some overplayed Ax; folding trips to a half-pot turn bet would be an overfold, and raising only isolates us versus full houses and better Tx. Calling keeps weaker bluffs in and controls pot size versus UTG’s strong region.

River Analysis

River 3h bricks draws; no flush completes, board is Ac Ts 7s Td 3h. With SPR ~2.5, checking range again is best: UTG still has the nut advantage with full houses and better Tx+Ax, while our range has plenty of weaker showdown (some Tx, a bit of Ax, and bluff-catchers that got here). If we bet, we’re mostly targeting a narrow part of their range and opening ourselves to a shove from a very nutted distribution. Check lets UTG polarize and keeps our range protected.

River Analysis

River pot is 24.6BB; UTG fires 23.2BB (≈pot), a very polar sizing. UTG’s value region here is heavy: all full houses (AA, TT, 77, AT, A7 sometimes), better Tx (JT, QT, KT) and strong Ax that chooses to go thin (AT+), while most of the flop/turn spade bluffs and KQ/QJ-type hands either give up or bluff at some frequency. Our specific combo—T8, the weakest trips we ever get here—is too far down the value ladder to call a pot-sized bet that requires ~33% equity. GTO range construction wants calls with boats, AT, and mainly higher-kicker trip Tx that block value (like holding a Jack, Queen, or King with our T); T8 without key blockers should be folded and used as an overfold candidate versus an UTG triple barrel. In practice, this river call is relying on UTG massively over-bluffing a tight line, which is unlikely in most games.

Note: Calling a pot-sized river barrel with our lowest-kicker trips is too loose; this combo should be folded versus a polarized UTG range.
