In limped pots, don’t fire random river bluffs with hands that don’t block anything or credibly represent a strong value hand.

Flop Analysis

On Ad Jc 4d in a limp pot, ranges are wide and unstructured; button has plenty of random Ax, Jx and small pairs that happily continue. With T3o and effectively no equity or credible story, checking is correct – we don’t generate enough folds to justify a stab here.

Turn Analysis

Turn 5h doesn’t help us, and button’s check‑back range is still full of showdown like weak Ax, Jx, 4x, pocket pairs, plus some slowplays. Firing now with T3o would just punt into a range that rarely folds, so checking again is the standard low‑variance play.

River Analysis

River 9c is where the line goes off‑plan: we still have pure air, and this card improves button’s range more often than ours (9x, A9, J9, some delayed floats). T3o doesn’t block any natural calls, nor does it clearly represent a value hand that got there, so betting 3BB into 2.5BB is an over‑bluff even though it worked this time.

Note: The river bluff with T3o is unnecessary and poorly constructed; we lack blockers and a credible value story, so we should usually just check‑fold and save the bluff for better candidates.
