We limped too weak pre and then overcalled a river spot where our full house is often crushed by better full houses.

Flop Analysis

On 3s 2c 5s we flop top pair, but our kicker is bad and BB’s betting range is quite strong in a limped pot: overpairs, better 3x, 5x, and strong draws. Facing a sizable 3BB into 5.5BB, defending some 3x is mandatory, but Q3o is a fringe candidate and can be folded more often, especially vs a value-heavy opponent.

Note: Calling the relatively big flop bet with one of our weakest possible top pairs is borderline; against a strong, value-heavy betting range it becomes a clear fold.

Turn Analysis

Turn 2h pairs the board, which is actually bad for us: villain’s overpairs and 5x now make very strong full houses, while we sit on a weaker one. The 3BB into 11.5BB sizing is small enough that we can justify continuing, but the hand is already in bluff-catcher territory vs a range skewed to boats and good 3x.

River Analysis

River 2s gives us 2-full-of-3s, but it also super-charges villain’s value range: any 5x, 44+, or slowplayed overpair now has us in grim shape. Facing a big 13.2BB bet into 27.7BB, ranges are very polarized and this particular full house is just not high enough in our distribution to justify a call vs most opponents.

Note: Calling the large river bet with a medium-strength full house in a spot where villain’s value range massively dominates us is a big overcall; folding is the disciplined play.
