KK UTG on QT2fd: KK: Overplaying The River

- Flop
- T♥ 2♥ Q♣
KK is a mandatory open, but on the river we should check and sometimes fold trips with a K blocker versus a big bet on a very connected board.
Flop Analysis
Flop T‑2‑Qc, SPR ≈4.8, we have an overpair with a backdoor flush draw on a semi-wet board. Solver likes a mix of small bets and checks here; our 4.1BB c-bet is a bit on the large side but still reasonable. BU’s call keeps their range fairly strong, with Qx, Tx, pocket pairs, and some draws.
Turn Analysis
Turn Js is very connected and brings in the KQJT straight; BU’s call range is now heavily weighted toward strong made hands and draws. With SPR ≈1.6, we’re effectively committed, so checking is preferred to avoid getting check-raised off our equity. Solver prefers checking or using a small bet size here.
Note: Firing a big turn bet on a very connected board with SPR ≈1.6 is too ambitious; checking or using a small bet size is preferred.
River Analysis
River Kc gives us trips on a board that now reads T‑2‑Q‑J‑K, with BU having a lot of KQ and strong draws. Solver wants us to check here and let BU bluff; betting would mostly get action from stronger hands and fold out worse.
River Analysis
Once BU bets 13BB into 32.9BB, we’re getting about 4.5:1 and need only ~18% equity. Trips with a K blocker is strong enough to continue, but the solver prefers folding this combo more often than calling.
