Open T9s on the button, defend vs BB’s small 3-bet, check flop and turn, and river fold is fine versus a bet on a straight-completing board.
Flop Analysis
Flop Jd-6c-Qh is semi-wet and fairly neutral; BB checks and we have an OESD plus some backdoor hearts. With SPR ~7.8, checking range from IP is preferred, and our combo fits well into that strategy. Solver likes a lot of checking here and only mixes in some medium-sized bets with stronger draws or value hands.
Turn Analysis
Turn 2c is a brick for our draw and doesn’t meaningfully shift the range advantage. BB checks again, and we still have a strong incentive to check range. Solver leans toward checking here and only uses a large bet with very strong value or strong draws; our hand is still just a draw and doesn’t benefit from betting.
River Analysis
River 5s completes the 8-high straight. BB now bets 7.6BB into 18.1BB, giving us about 2.4:1 and requiring ~29.5% equity. Solver prefers a mix of call, fold, and overbet-raise here, but T9hh has no showdown value and blocks some of BB’s natural bluffs, so folding is reasonable. The key is that we don’t have a straight and don’t block the strongest made hands, so we don’t have a strong bluff-catcher candidate.
